    Breed Survey 2011

Breed surveys are carried out by the BPA each year to monitor the numbers of pigs in each breeding line.

The Oxford Sandy & Black survey this year was made more difficult again this year by the need to survey even more herds as we are continuing to build on our successes of recent years with an increased number of breeders keeping our pigs. Following the survey I am pleased to announce an increase in all male and female bloodlines. As we grow we must all be on our guard to ensure that breed standards are maintained. To that end I am happy to supply copies of the Breed Standard Guide on request. I would like to thank everyone for all their help and the positive support that I received during the survey. Kind regards David Norman Breed Surveyor

    Hot Air Balloons

Pigs can be severely distressed by an over-flying hot air balloon which can result in a group of pigs breaking fences, mixing and fighting. Consequently many farmers try to keep balloons away from their outdoor stock by informing clubs of their whereabouts and asking them to avoid over-flying the unit as far as this is possible.

If you register your outdoor herd it will be marked as a ‘sensitive area’ on ballooning maps for the pilots to be aware of, as part of their Code of Conduct, contact the BBAC information@bbac.org
